Tools & Resources
NFF operates at the crossroads between many different voices of the social sector. As a result, our staff spends a lot of time examining the way nonprofits operate, change, grow, and interconnect with these many facets. We explore emerging issues, write papers and conduct field research and analysis. With the support of funders, we also design major initiatives that combine our lending and consulting services with broad or thematic research. Exploring and analyzing the way money is both given and used informs NFF’s advocacy messages, which aim to propel holistic, field-wide change.
Our research areas are diverse. We design surveys, articles, and studies based on field data; we explore ways to connect nonprofit financial metrics with capacity and program metrics; and we often partner with or connect to other sources of data to deepen our understanding of nonprofit finance.
