Tri-City Health Center Gets a New Facility with $6 Million Loan

Andrea Hendrix, a mother of eight, was a schoolteacher and volunteer until tough economic conditions pushed her into homelessness. Tri-City Health Center helped her access vital medications, signed her up for counseling services, and made her feel valued during a vulnerable time in her life. “I feel comfortable when I come to Tri-City Health Center. I am surrounded with a lot of love and all the staff members played a part in my life and recovery,” she said. “They really comfort me and other clients that come through this door.”

Andrea is one of over 23,000 clients who walk through Tri-City Health Center’s doors every year. Tri-City Health Center serves a community in Fremont, California with a high proportion of uninsured people and few available primary care physicians. As a result, a high percentage of people end up going to the emergency room to address medical needs that could otherwise be treated by a primary care doctor. In order to give more patients access to comprehensive health services from an accessible location, Tri-City Health Center is planning to open a new health clinic in the Irvington area of South Fremont, California. The new Irvington health center is projected to serve 8,000 patients by 2018. It is within reach of an estimated 16,000 low-income residents and is a five-minute walk from three bus routes in an area with limited public transportation.

A $6 million loan to Tri-City Health Center will help them to acquire the new building and better serve the Irvington community. The loan includes $3 million from NFF and $3 million in participation from Capital Impact Partners. NFF’s financing will make it possible for Tri-City Health Center to help more people like Andrea access the health care they deserve.
