NFF Lends $750,000 to Brighter Beginnings

November 10, 2015

Brighter Beginnings believes that every family matters and every child deserves a happy, healthy future. Since 1984, the human services organization has helped thousands of people in California's East Bay Area with an array of family-centric programs—from comprehensive medical services, early-childhood programs, and support for new parents to mental health services and economic empowerment workshops.

Brighter Beginnings is awaiting Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) "Look Alike" status to provide integrated primary and behavioral services to underserved populations at its clinics in Richmond and Antioch. In these neighborhoods, teen birthrates are 40% higher than in surrounding communities and residents are disproportionately affected by poverty and health issues. The new designation will allow the organization to scale up services at these clinics and reach more disadvantaged patients. Financing from NFF, which includes a $350,000 term loan and a $400,000 line of credit, will help Brighter Beginnings to increase the number of patients served at these sites from 1,100 to over 9,000 within two years and make a difference in the lives of more East Bay Area families.
